George Orwell's "1984"

TU's Chapman Theatre at Kendall Hall - Tulsa
Presenter: TU Theatre Department
Show Dates: Feb. 22-24 at 8 p.m., Feb. 25 at 2 p.m.

How does the past inform the future? And who are we if it's erased? In our current politically challenging and unsettling times, TU’s multimedia production of George Orwell’s 1984 (adapted by Andrew White) brings this question into shockingly sharp focus.

In 1984, George Orwell created a dystopian landscape to examine the consequences of a totalitarian government ruling Great Britain. In Andrew White’s adaptation, the people are in a perpetual state of war and under constant surveillance. The party subtly controls all aspects of its citizens’ lives, down to what they think, believe and remember. Protagonist Winston Smith and Julia risk their lives for love and freedom of expression. In an atmosphere of lies and suppression, one man explores memory and love to find meaning and hope.
